Issey Miyake 1991SS Textured Fringe Top

From Issey Miyake’s Spring/Summer 1991 collection, a period of intensive experimentation with textile structure and the transformation of flat fabric into dimensional form.  This dark brown top is constructed from a densely textured fabric with irregular raised and fringed threads across its surface, while layered short sleeves extend into narrow hanging panels at the sides. The deliberately tactile, almost raw surface gives a simple silhouette depth and movement, reflecting Miyake’s material-led approach to garment construction.
